Four Palm Beach State College students won second place for a second year in a row at the Florida Department of Education’s Second Annual Cybersecurity Competition in Tallahassee on Nov. 15.
The students, who are part of PBSC Ethical Hackers Club Cyberforce team, are Stanley Wisnioski, Kristopher Brattin, Justin Wan and Nico Verna. The club offers hands-on ethical hacking activities and opportunities for students to strengthen their real-world skills.
The Cybersecurity Competition took place in partnership with the Florida College System and Tallahassee State College. Students from Florida’s “Great 28” public colleges participated in the competition.
During the event students detected and mitigated cyberthreats using a cyber range virtual platform, which replicates real world IT infrastructures. The winning teams were chosen based on how quickly they could manage, operate, and defend the network infrastructures of fictional organizations.
“This result is testament to the hard work and dedication of the club members who immerse themselves in the numerous offensive and defensive cybersecurity activities available to the club,” said Professor Dwight T. Elliott, J.D. and EHC advisor. “I am proud of the outstanding achievement of the club members who commit themselves on a weekly basis to the vision and mission of the club.”
